GMRS
GMRS is the General Mobile Radio Service. It is a licensed UHF radio for families and neighbors, not a phone and not a party line. One FCC license covers the holder and their immediate family. Transmitting without that license is not allowed. Listening is. Use a clear voice, a short call, and the phonetic alphabet so a street name survives static.
Spell it. Nine is “niner.” Zero is “zero.”
The common 22-channel handheld map. Channels 15–22 are repeater outputs. The repeater input is 5 MHz higher, on 467 MHz. Channels 8–14 stay at half a watt.
